Are you in need of a little seasonal pick-me-up? As you go about your snowy, cold days, are you struggling to find things to be grateful for about this season? I’ve got just the reminder you need, a visual love letter to winter. ♡
There’s something that happens during this time each year. It’s almost the end of winter, but it still can feel like there’s too much of it left. More cold. More snow. More big puffy coats, winter boots, and slippery sidewalks. It’s a time when it becomes all too easy to complain about all the things that annoy us about the wintertime. And when we’re in this negative headspace, it feels like just about everything.
That’s what negativity does. It’s the ultimate joy stealer. It makes us blind to all the amazingly wonderful things that surround us each day. And, yep, even in the winter. Beautiful things are happening around us as we speak. We just need to see them.
Negativity also keeps us in our heads – in that cycle of toxic thinking. Being stuck in this headspace makes it impossible to be fully present and in the moment to see, feel, and be with what’s around us. No wonder we aren’t seeing the beauty of winter. We’re too distracted to!
An important note: I’m not referring to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in this post – the type of depression that’s related to changes in seasons. If you feel you may be experiencing SAD, and looking for some information about that, here’s an article that can help → Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
Gratitude and the little joys in life
I’ve learned that when I’m grateful, I begin to see joy, feel joy, and live joy abundantly. It surrounds me.
Gratitude is one of my favourite ways to combat my negative thinking. It helps me see the good stuff. And when it comes to the wintertime, feeling gratitude for all the little joys the season brings helps me out of that negative space that ends up hurting every other area in my life.
If you’re feeling stuck in your winter-bashing and looking for a way to change your thoughts around, I encourage you to seek things about this season to be grateful for. What are the simple joys of life that only winter brings? Try creating your very own love letter to the season. It just might help you begin to see all the other things you love in your day, in you, and in your life.
And if you’re in need of a bit of inspiration to get started, have a look through my visual love letter to winter below. Here are all the little winter joys that I am grateful for.
Happy joy finding, my grateful friend! xx, Amanda
