Decorating with colour can be tough for us non-designers. Our spaces tend to consist of safe neutral colour palettes of whites and greys. It’s easier to stay in this decorating comfort zone than to have to worry about colour clashes or buyer’s remorse – that purple chair looked great in the store but can’t seem to work in my living room! – we’ve all been there. But let’s step out of this comfort zone and into the colour. But which colour should we use? And where would we even start?
According to The Interior Design Handbook by Frida Ramstedt (the founder of Trendenser, one of Sweden’s largest interior design blogs), the simplest colour for us to start decorating with is either blue, green, or brown – the colours of nature. She explains that most things pair well with these colours because no colours look bad against the sky, forest, or earth. And when we think about it, that makes so much sense!
If you’re wanting to start adding colour to your space but not sure which colour to choose, introducing one of these three colours – blue, green, or brown – will not only safely pair well with your neutral white or grey space (cutting down your decorating stress by a million!), it’ll also add beauty and vibrance – what your space needs. Thank you, Frida, for this great little tip and for giving us a place to start!
And when it comes to these three colours, green is one we gravitate to again and again. The calming effect it has, the feeling of nature it exudes, the freshness – whether it’s a towel in the bathroom or a rug in the living room, it can help make a space feel peaceful and tranquil. Which is why we wanted to share the little green treasures on our wishlist currently – just in case you’re torn between which of these three colours to choose and wanting that same feel-good energy.
