If there’s one thing you desperately need more of in life, it’s balance. You’re spending every waking hour either worrying about all the things you need to get done or doing them. You’re exhausted and really needing some self-care. One helpful and simple way to start living a more balanced lifestyle is by seeking out, experiencing, and enjoying the little joys of life. This Little Joys Challenge (March Edition) will inspire you to embrace all the simple joys life has to offer.

The not-so-little joys

As someone who has struggled with anxiety and depression, I’ve learned that appreciation for, or simply a recognition of, the little joys in life has a profound impact on my mood and overall well-being. It has helped me see tiny sparks of light in my world that, at times, can feel consumed by darkness. And it brings me hope. It reminds me that despite what I’m going through, there is still so much to enjoy and be grateful for around me.

The truth is these little joys have a huge impact on our mind, body, and spirit. The smell of freshly baked cookies, a stranger’s smile, a puppy’s cuddle – all these tiny things that happen around us daily may seem insignificant at face value, but once you’ve tuned in to how they’re making you feel in that moment, you quickly realize how priceless they really are.

“Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” – Robert Brault

I can’t count how many times one of these little joys in life have made me smile, brought a calmness over my body and mind (even if just for a minute or two), pulled me from all the negativity in my brain and into the present moment, and even brought a tear to my eye (ailing grandpa mustering up the ability to smile at me for a tiny moment will do that).

Life is full of all of these tiny treasures begging us to notice them, wanting only to make us happy. And all we need to do is be present enough to see them.

The Challenge

This month, start noticing and experiencing these little joys of life. Follow along with my challenge below or use it as inspiration to create your very own. Make time for the bread baking and nature strolling and sunset watching. Make time for all the simple joys life has to offer. They really want you to notice them.
