I like to think I’m a fighter. Not a physical, punch and kick kind of fighter. I’m talking about the kind that fights for justice – for me and others. The type of fighter that defends and protects the well-being of others and my own health and happiness. At least, I hope to be. I know it’s something I strive to be.
It wasn’t always this way. In the past, I was the girl that didn’t want to ruffle any feathers for fear of not being accepted. I was the ultimate people-pleaser that would never speak my mind. I was rarely being authentic to ME, and after a while, that starts to make you sick. This way of living eventually led me to complete burnout, which I’ve gratefully been slowly able to recover from.
Sometimes though, I get scared of returning to that dark emotional place I once was. Now and then, when I’m feeling insecure, I catch myself stumbling back into my old ways. I find myself saying or going along with something that I don’t believe in just to please someone else. I am a RECOVERING people-pleaser after all, and I know this process takes time. But, I’ll be darned if I throw away all the progress I’ve made in the self-love and self-care departments!
When I catch myself doing this, I’ve learned to show self-compassion instead of self-hate. I’ve learned to be patient with myself, to remember I’m trying my best, and that I’ve come so far. And I seek out some words of wisdom.
Which brings me to this post. Today, I’ve put together some quotes that inspire me to be strong and resilient.
For anyone else needing some words of wisdom in the courage department, here are 20+ quotes about courage to inspire you to be your beautifully brave self. We got this, my friends!
