Red And White Canada Day Cheese Board

What better way to celebrate our nation's birthday than with a red and white Canada Day cheese board? Here's what I included in mine! #redandwhitecheeseboard #redandwhitefoodforcanadaday #redandwhitefood #redandwhitefoodideas #cheeseboardideas #canadadayfood #tulipandsage

What better way to celebrate our nation’s birthday than with a red and white Canada Day cheese board??

I’ve been seeing all these beautiful American red, white, and blue boards online for the Fourth of July (check out this adorable American flag snack tray by thediaryofadebutante.com!), and it inspired me to make my very own Canadian version. How cute is this idea?

I love cheese boards. They’re so easy to put together. They always come out looking great. You really don’t have to be an expert in the kitchen to pull them off. They’re impossible to mess up. Cheese boards for everyone! 🙂

They also don’t take much prep, so it’s a handy little go-to to have in your back pocket any time some guests show up unexpectedly.

The process

I started this process by making a list of every red and white food I could think of. I initially wanted to mix sweet and savoury and create a super board with everything included – I’m talking marshmallows with salami. But I quickly realized that many of the flavours wouldn’t complement one another, and as tempting as it was to go big on the whole red and white theme, I ended up with simple and savoury.

And that’s my tip to you. If you’re finding yourself overwhelmed with what to include, opt for fewer quality items and let them shine!

And not sure where to display it? Use your handy-dandy cutting board!

Here’s what I included:

Red:

  • sweet mini peppers
  • grape tomatoes
  • radishes

White:

  • cauliflower
  • mini bocconcini
  • brie
  • ranch veggie dip

Some other possible additions:

  • Reds → meats
  • Whites → white cheddar, crackers, popcorn

Make it sweet

Next on my list of red and white boards → a sweet edition!

I’m thinking:

  • Reds → cherries, watermelon, red grapes, raspberries, strawberries, red apples (cut up into wedges and you’ve got both red and white), jams (i.e. strawberry jam!), candy (like red M&M’s)
  • Whites → white chocolate-covered pretzels (or strawberries or anything!), marshmallows, plain ol’ white chocolate, coconut, yogurt-covered anything

The possibilities are endless! I hope this inspires you to have fun creating your very own board! Happy cheese board- making, loves! xx, Amanda
