Ugly Christmas Sweater — Christmas and ugly sweaters go together like peanut butter and jelly – a pair made in holiday heaven! It was in the 1950s, as the holiday started to become more and more commercialized, that the Christmas-themed sweater was first produced on a large scale. At that time, these sweaters were known as “Jingle Bell Sweaters”. But it wasn’t until the 1980s that the Christmas sweater gained popularity.
Now, ugly sweater-themed parties, and contests for the title of ugliest, have become a staple during our holiday season. And this year, with social distancing and many of us working from home due to the pandemic, virtual ugly sweater parties have taken their place. There is no denying this sweater holds a special place in our Christmas-lovin’ hearts, which is why we’ve dedicated this week’s Monday Muse to it!
Below you’ll find our favourite versions of this iconic piece of clothing. Happy browsing and happiest Monday to you! xx, Amanda
